Our girl hates “About” sections. Because, when you really think about it, what can a person say about themselves when they’re in the middle – perhaps the end – of the story that is their life?
But for those who have a burning desire to know, our girl is in her early 60s, which she’s unpleasantly reminded of whenever she spends too much time gardening or dancing. That said, she’s looking forward to partying hard for her next birthday, which at the moment looks as if it will be spent in quarantine due to the virus currently ravaging the planet.
She’s childless by choice. She was never a girly-girl who played with baby dolls (and her Barbie dolls never had babies, either). Based on observations of her friends’ families and her own family, she decided at the age of nine that she would never have children, reasoning that it would be really arrogant of her to assume responsibility for another life or lives when she didn’t know if she’d be capable of taking care of herself.
She’s an honourably discharged veteran of the US Army and college educated, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in English. Twice-divorced, now happily in a relationship with the best man she’s ever known.
Our girl is a voracious reader. She’s a serious film buff, with a predilection towards arcane indy and foreign films. She’s addicted to PC games, loves to cook for her partner and her friends (a joy now suspended due to Covid-19 and is good at gardening (her secret wish was to get a job on Ground Force, but the show ended). She has a tropical fish tank containing 4 fish named after her favourite film directors and fictional characters, and a large stuffed Eeyore that she sleeps with. Her personal traits include creativity, sensitivity, empathy, compassion, a quick temper, and an inability to forgive which she continues to struggle with.
She’s been writing – poems, essays, short stories – since she was nine years old, and fervently hopes to finally finish the novel she’s been working on since 2004.
